Medio tutissimus ibis comes from Ovid and means “in the middle you will go most safely” . This sculpture was made to glorify the Extreme Centre Party imagined by Président Vertut. If its title refers to the Roman empire, its refined design, its coercive majesty and the imitation of nature it conveys remind more of the various totalitarian regimes of the 20th century. While pushing notions created by the medias such as “liquid modernity” or “maternal societies” ad absurdum, this sculpture paints a troubling metaphorical portrait of ultra-protective societies that eventually deprive people of their liberties.
